The Garden of Belonging RCW

The Garden of Belonging

Romanian Creative Week, Iași — 14–25 May 2025

Set within the underground galleries of the Metropolitan, The Garden of Belonging unfolded as an immersive environment — a contemporary reimagining of the Garden of Eden through ceramics.

The exhibition brought together an international group of artists whose works moved between the mythological and the tangible, the sacred and the everyday. Organic forms, architectural structures, and symbolic elements coexisted in a landscape where clay transformed into imagined flora, vessels, and hybrid forms.

Within this subterranean setting, materiality became central. Ceramics — earthy, malleable, and enduring — reflected cycles of growth and decay, suggesting both the fragility and persistence of natural and cultural systems. The space held a tension between cultivated and wild, between control and spontaneity.

More than a display of objects, the exhibition functioned as a spatial experience, inviting a slower and more sensory engagement. Through its layered narrative, The Garden of Belonging opened a reflection on the idea of the garden as both utopia and rupture — a place shaped by desire, transformation, and continuous return.

Artists in the exhibition approached ceramics through distinct yet connected practices

Javier Seral Posac works with handbuilt forms inspired by ancient Mediterranean vessels, developing organic surfaces that bring movement and a sense of lived history to his pieces.

Cătălin Filip explores the natural behavior of material under gravity, creating sculptural forms where folds and structures emerge in a quiet and intuitive way.

Amii Tsang draws from botanical imagery and seasonal change, shaping soft, fluid forms that carry a sense of fragility and quiet transformation.

Janice Cormier works with a deep sensitivity to landscape, creating vessels that reflect time, place, and a grounded connection to the earth.

Constanze Abroell develops experimental ceramic forms inspired by marine life, where porous textures and organic structures suggest hidden, living systems.

Ioana Bogin approaches clay through an intuitive and slow process, allowing forms to emerge through stillness, material presence, and a quiet search for balance.

One Gallery at Romanian Design Week

Bucharest — May 25 – June 2, 2025

Presented as part of Romanian Design Week, this nomadic exhibition brought together an international group of artists across two spaces in Bucharest.

The project unfolded as a collaborative format, where different practices met through material, process, and individual ways of working. Moving between locations, the exhibition adapted to each space, allowing the works to be experienced in changing contexts.

Through this presentation, One Gallery expanded its direction into a more open and connected structure, building relationships between artists, places, and audiences.

An experience shaped by movement, context, and shared presence.
